Have you found yourself wondering, “How does one go about writing a fantastic blog post?”
There are several different factors that affect how “fantastic” a blog post comes out, which is important, as blog posts a tremendous piece of the digital marketing puzzle online.
Below you will learn about five great steps to writing better blog posts.
“Be yourself. Above all, let who you are, what you are, what you believe, shine through every sentence you write, every piece you finish.” -John Jakes
Be Relevant and Informative
One of the first steps to a great blog post is taking into consideration whether the information is relevant and informative.
For example, if your blog is geared towards weight loss, it would be irrelevant to start talking about gold panning.
Readers have a world of information at their fingertips. Most people are more likely to remain interested in a blog when it stays on point, to the topic, and becomes something of great interest and value to follow.
Your readers are king.
Keep Posts Short, Sweet and Simple
Keep posts short, sweet and simple.
When a reader lands on an article, you have a few moments to impress the reader. This means creating a nice introduction, be straight-forward, use eye-catching graphics – and you’re well on your way to blog post success.
It’s also helpful to explain your ideas the simplest way possible. Don’t over-simplify, but give every reader the chance to make sense of your topic.
Create Catchy Headlines
A great catchy headline is more likely to attract potential readers.
You want your headline to describe what the article is about, but try to seduce the reader into visiting the link by thinking up some great adjectives to include in addition to the main theme of the article.
Proof-Read and Rid Bad Grammar
Proof-read!
One big turnoff is a blog that has horrendous grammar or typos. This is crucial, especially if you are writing a blog that is niche oriented or requires technical understanding.
Having good structure, grammar and spelling shows sophistication and quality. You’ll be more likely to retain the attention of your readers.
Find an Editor
Lastly, have someone else proof-read your article.
Getting advice from more than just one person increases the range of the article as well as gives it a very fresh perspective. This also allows errors to be spotted or improvements made if any are possible.
Your readers will enjoy the increased substance and variety.
Go Forth & Write!
Writing a blog post isn’t always easy.
Now that you have an idea of what makes a fantastic blog post, go forth and start writing.
Always remember that humor and personality goes a long way in attracting and retaining your readers.
What steps have you taken to improve your blog writing?
I think you should include ‘read your blog post out loud to someone.’ I’m now writing guest posts for an online magazine and my editor just expects me to write the post and she puts it up there.
So I read out my articles to the husband and he makes sure they sound right to him. And I usually catch all my errors while I’m reading it to him.
Thanks for posting this. You have helped me transform my current deadline into a fantastic post.
That’s a great thought Chaudie. When I read my blog post outloud I’m usually surprised with how many mistakes I can find. Even the clarity of writing and sentence structure can often be changed.
It’s great to have a built-in editor in your husband. I’m sure he’s able to be honest and upfront, which is a good thing in writing!
I’ll keep the 3 S in mind Chris 🙂 Short, Sweet, and Simple. I happened to read a blog post of more than a thousand words and the topic is just so simple. As an advice, if you think you have more to say on a topic (may or may not be related) a series of post will do. I admire bloggers who do this and it gets me excited to check for the next series.
Keep it simple stupid. Short, sweet & simple. So many reminders that it’s best to keep things short, and let the content be the thing that’s doing all the talking.
Using an informal tone when writing a blog can be considered in achieving a fantastic blog post. Writing like you’re just talking to your reader face-to-face can get them engaged and enables them to know you and understand the content of the blog on a personal level.
Those posts usually connect with me best, and I just love that! Thanks for sharing your thoughts Tim – and for connecting on the blog!
Hello Christian,
It is nice to read your blog, it is a refresher for me after a break.
As you have rightly mentioned, keeping it short and to the point makes it more relevant to the readers. There is no need to beat around the bush to get to your point. Writing skills are hard to come in that manner.
Will keep coming back for more here.
